AAUK Art Action UK ヴァーチャルレジデンシー

Art Action UK のヴァーチャルレジデンシーに参加しています。公募から選ばれた4人の日本人アーティストは英国内で活動する英国人専門家と
メンターシップを2回行い、自分の制作の発展と反映に努めました。私は英国人画家のAlastair Gorden氏と絵画技術、顔料について、制作の方法、 参考にする作家、植物というテーマの発展等について話合いました。コロナウィルス対策の為、成果発表としてオンラインでの展示を公開しています。 https://www.artactionuk.org/art-action-uk-artist-residency#apply

Klangkeller in London → S10c

Lewishamのアトリエのプロジェクトスペースでアトリエメンバーとシリーズを始めました。 制作過程のものや、実験過程のものの発表の機会は限られるため、せっかくアクセスできるスペースがあるのだから、大勢の人と使おうという経緯です。 ベルリンでもKlangkellerという名のシリーズをしており、冬に月2回開催していました。発表する人は、「一度イベントに来た事がある人」に限定し、 横の繋がりを大事にしたものとなっています。また、入場料は参加者、バー、ドアー全ての関わった人に平等で利益を分け、セルフオーガナイズの形をシェアします。 I, Sam Andreae, and Hannah Marshall have started running a series at our art studio in Lewisham. We will share the space for experimental works ongoing, or performances, and any other formats. We are only open to people who have been to the events. Once you are in the community, you can sign up for your program on the s10c website. We distribute equally the money from doors with people who got involved with. I ans Sam Andreae used to run the same seriese called "Klangkeller" in Berlin. S10C is a performance and exhibition space for music and art located at SET Space Lewisham. The program is formed organically by a pool of artists who signup to play on the scheduled event dates. We want to focus on allowing the presentation of works in progress and spontaneous collaborations. This might mean the program isn't confirmed until relatively near to when an event will happen. Thanks in advance for your patience and curiosity!I and Sam Andreae used to organize a music/art seriese in Berlin. We will launch the similar seriese in London this Summer! Please come to see the event, and sign up for the event. Building and expanding the nice community in a solid way. We have an Instagram account. Now we have 0 following and 0 followers. P2Panda という新しいネットワークを構築するプログラムのステッカーを頼まれたので、パンダを描きました!もちろんパンダに竹です。 Bambooというプログラムもベースに構築するようで。パンダと竹って圧倒的なビジュアルありますよね。Super tech group of Andreae/Sphie/Sam and Vincent the company is set in Berlin. The project is that IT to IT. So please see the detail at their website (I don not think where it is, so it may be not be on the internet yet?) I made thier Panda stickers.If you want the sticker, please try to find the panda people and ask. :p

2021 Scroll Painting Animation for Otto Willberg's Barbaric Mystical Bored

イギリス人音楽家のオット―・ウィルベルグさんのリサーチプログラムとのコラボレーション。潮が引いたときに渡れる島へ行き録音したものにアニメーションをつけてほしいというものでした。 とても、ミステリアスな雰囲気と、静かで広がるエコーからインスピレーションを受けて、絵巻物のよな長い1枚がゆっくりとスライドしていくものにしました。 モチーフは中世の植物を用いた医療。と百鬼夜行です。潮がひいた時にか渡れない島という事で、並行する世界とし、時空や異世界の認識があった中世の世界観を用いたいと思いました。 キリスト教以前のヨーロッパの民間信仰では、世界は大宇宙と小宇宙とに分かれており、火や水を扱う場所は大宇宙 と繋がっており、使い方を謝れば大宇宙を連れ込み災いがおこると信じられていました。そのような概念はキッチンの火から目を離し、何かに燃え移り、その火が家を焼く。そのような事件が起こればそれは大宇宙の要素が小宇宙(キッチンなど)から繋がったからです。British musician Otto Willberg's project. I got an inspiration from Medieval medical treatment what he described. Collaboration with British musician Otto Wilberg's research program. He shared his recordings recorded on an island that people could cross only when the tide was low and asked me to add an animation to the recording. Inspired by a very mysterious atmosphere and a quiet, expansive echo, a long piece like a picture scroll sliding slowly came up with my mind. The motif is medical treatment using plants. And Hyakki Yako. (Japanese scroll painting illustrated about A march of monsters in Muromachi period ). Since the island can only be crossed when the tide is low, I wanted to make it a parallel world and use the medieval world view that was recognized as space-time and another world. In pre-Christian European folk beliefs, the world was divided into a large universe and a small universe. The place where fire and water are handled is the universe It was believed that if you can not handle how to use it, it would bring the universe and cause disaster. Such a concept takes your eyes off the fire in the kitchen and burns into something, which burns the house. If such an incident occurs, it is because the elements of the cosmos are connected from the cosmos (kitchen, etc.). Such an idea is close to the eight million gods of the Orient, and I found the belief is more familiar to pre-Christian European culture. Some of Hyakki Yagyo's picture scrolls look like youkai that cut through space, and the way the picture scrolls themselves are drawn is a different space that is connected to space, and I think it matches the space created by the sound.

○○2021 Life Exhibition with Kanako Tada and Ryota Nojima

武蔵野美術大学同期の3人のロンドンでのグループ展です。それぞれウィーン、ロンドン、東京と別の都市で活動をしており、パンデミックにより渡航の制限が行われる中での時間の共有、日常の共有を試みました。This is a group exhibition of three people from Musashino Art University in London. They are active in different cities such as Vienna, London and Tokyo, and tried to share time and daily life while travel restrictions were imposed by the pandemic.We planed this exhibition last November 2020. We did not expect the pandemic went so long. Kanako is currently living in Vienna, and Ryota is living in Tokyo. So we decided to do in a small scale version. We applied the Asahi foundation Japan but rejected! Sobsob. We all went to the same Art University in Tokyo and same year. It was nice to catch up what are they doing and something new. This is always nice to have old friend knowing each other long and they are still painting. Please check their works and website!

Kale Stop Motion Animation 2015

これは2015年に作成したものです。まだイギリスに来たばかりでケールという野菜が珍しく気に入っていました。(今ではキャベツの感覚です) I made this animation in 2015. I liked kale, because it was unusual vegetable for me when I had just moved to UK.

2021 Commisioned Paintings

ベルリン在住の音楽家2人からのご依頼。白い壁に高い天井で、色鮮やかなものという事でしたので、カラフルに。 黒猫の絵は葛飾北斎の浮世絵の構図を参考に。顔のある絵も浮世絵の山道の構図を参考にしています。割と浮世絵は構図の 参考にすることが多いです。画面のど真ん中に木をどかんと置く潔さ、そのような構図にひかれます。For the picture of the black cat, I refer to the composition of Ukiyo-e by Katsushika Hokusai. The picture with a floating face is also based on the composition of the mountain road in Ukiyo-e. I often look through Ukiyo-e to get inspiration for composition. Because they often use dynamic ways such as drawing the thick tree right in the middle of the picture.

2020 Deep autumn; How does my neighbour live; I wonder?

SET Project Space Lewisham. Sam Andreae/Hannah Marshall/Cath Roberts/Tom Ward/Otto Willberg. I reckon, the 2020 was the strangest year for many people.All activities were canceled and hard to make a plan for the future. However, I used the annonymoce time to reconstruct my practice. I have never had the time to be at home so that long without using transports in my life. As I grown up in Tokyo, I have never had a time to not being surrounded by busy crowds that I found it comfortable or some usual state of minds. At the same time, I really hated the big polluted city, always wanted to live by nature (now I am doing somewhere between.Living on the canal in London. ). I styaed in residency in Oita prefucture in Japan for an year. When I remember Japan, most of the scenes are the place. As well as other people are forced to change the lifestyle in bad and good ways.

2020 Word fo a day' at Bambinart Gallery, Tokyo

バンビナートギャラリーでの個展です。この時はまだパンデミックの以前で、楽観的なもの、文字を積極的に取り入れながら政治的意見をいれてみる。ニュートラルに響く日常の言葉と少しの違和感。図像はランダムに選んだスタイルもバラバラなものに、ナンセンスな言葉を上からかぶせます。イギリスに住んでまだ2年ちょい、これがこの国の風景。というものはわかってきても、それを内部から取り込み、にじみ出る程までにはいかないというものにナンセンスな文字を取り組むことで、表面的にしました。そこで外国人から見た「イギリス的なもの」の距離感のバランスがちょうどよく感じました。この内部からにじみ出る。というところにこだわってしまうのも日本という国の文化で育った面があるなと感じます。私は私だからどう感じるかを他人が決めるものではないんですよね。 These photos are from a solo exhibition at the Bambinart Gallery in January 2020. At this time, it was still before the pandemic, and I tried to give political opinions while actively incorporating optimistic things and letters. A little discomfort with everyday words that echo in neutral. The visual images are randomly selected in different styles, and nonsense words are applied on the top. It's been two years since I lived in England, and I sensed some sceneries are identified as this country. However, I was not sure I to understand the sceneries and talk about this from my core inside, so made it superficial by working on nonsense characters that do not ooze out, making it flat. I felt this was a good balance and the distance of the "British" things seen by foreigners. At really the same time, I feel that the fact that I am particular about that is because I grew up in the culture of Japan. Because this idea might be misunderstood the wrong direction such as only local is allowed to talk about the culture as their own stories. I and you are the ones who decide how I and you feel, not by others so.

2017 Share the acts of bathing' Japan tour UK-JP artists/musicians collaboration Hokkaido, Tokyo, Beppu, Kyoto, Nagoya funded by Artist International Development Fund

This was the epic tour with Sam Andreae/David Birchall and Otto Willberg Japan tour. I cordinated Tokyo nad Beppu collaborating with the local artists. Kohei Sekigawa in Tokyo, Art Horyman, Rina Nakano, Ono-kun, Okome-chan and ReTREc Hinago-san in Beppu, thank you Beppu Project and Ito- san Blockhouse and Arts Council England for having us all people where we visited. That was an amazing memoraible tour I want to do it again,,

Beppu is the richest Onsen city in the World. I can not explain enough about the uniqueness of the city social character-forming with their incredible natural wealth of hot springs. There are more than 100 public baths in Beppu. All of them are filled with natural hot springs from the ground. Local people maintain their own public baths with each other such as cleaning, administration, opening/closing the water. These locally run baths are cleaner than any other commercial baths in Beppu. I stayed in this city as a Kiyoshima Apartment residency artist. The apartment is really old, with no bath. So, we all go to the local public bath every day. It costs just 50pence for the real hot spring!!!! The place played an important role for local people. People are chatting with each other, greeting each other in the bath. Sharing the natural resource and sharing the naked body with strangers creates the incredibly peaceful atmosphere of this city. The amount they produce hot spring per minute is second after Yellow Stone National Park (You will die if you soak the hot spring there). Hot spring has 8 types. Beppu has 7 of them. There are beaches, fresh fish, food and the weather is nice. I am always jealous of the place. from London.

2017 Living Room by Soramame (Mio Ebisu/Sam Andreae) at Liebig 12, Berlin

Liebig12 is an Atelier & community oriented_initiative run by Allegra Solitude in collaboration with numerous and diverse local and international Actors. Inspired by empirical approaches, Liebig12 acts as a cross disciplinary laboratory encouraging the exchange between artists, curators, re#searchers, cultural activists & flaneurs. A work in progress Wunderkammer within a private & public identity, individual & collective, interacting with_in its surrounding social-urban context.(http://www.liebig12.net/about/). I and Sam Andreae spent a week in this venue to create a surreal living room by disconstruct the elements of sounds and visual of "living room".

2017 '片山正通的百科全書 ” Life is hard…Let’s go shopping.” ay Opera City Art Gallery, Tokyo, Japan

My work was exhibited at this exhibition at Opera City Art Gallery. "Wonderwall’s Masamichi Katayama is one of the hottest interior designers on the global scene. His strength lies in the ability to conceptualize distinctive environments that enhances the vision and branding clients aspire, creating environment that would touch the subconscious of the consumer and occupant. His many projects include UNIQLO’s global flagship stores (New York, Paris, London, Ginza and other locations), INTERSECT BY LEXUS (Aoyama, Dubai and soon NYC), UNITED ARROWS (Roppongi), PASS THE BATON (Marunouchi, Omotesando, Kyoto Gion) and PIERRE HERMÉ PARIS Aoyama. Katayama also has a reputation as a collector. A visit to his studio, Wonderwall, reveals an office crammed with his massive collection of books and CDs, together with antiques that he has picked up on his travels, furniture by designers such as Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand and contemporary art by international artists such as Ryan Gander, Simon Fujiwara and Takashi Murakami. Coinciding with the 25th year of Masamichi Katayama’s design career, this exhibition presents his collection. Absurd daily life between June 17th and February' at Bambinart Gallery, Tokyo, Japan

Since 2012 when I had my first solo exhibition at Bambinart Gallery. I have an yearly solo exhibition. Thank you Yoneyama san! And all dear collectors who support me. An internationally well known painter Ayako Rokkaku-san kindly let me use her studio for making paintings for this exhibition. Thank you so much. It was so much inspiration to work aroud her paintings! The year I lived in Berlin was not easy, really really hard. Especially thier long dark dark dark winter. I had never imgined the winter is that hard. Winter in Japan is cold, but not dark. The lenght of the day light does not change significantly like Northern Europe. The sun sets around 6pm throughout the whole year. The sky is more blue and clear than any other seasons. When I looked at the western classical painitngs, I felt "They are so dark and depressed". I somehow was attracted by the darkness because I have the side of the personality inside me as well as everybody must have dakr and bright emotional feelings. BUT, after I moved to Norther Europe, I really started understanding the real feeling of it. The dark dark dark depressive winter comes every year and dominates half a year. Even thogh in Summer time I am feeling that "ah, the winter is coming" so always some anxiety towards the darkness even in the bright season.

Soramame

Duo. Soramame is a duo unit interdisciplinary collaboration with British musician Sam Andreae. We are seeking a way of sharing the visual and sound experience in a live setting.

2015 Kaden at Taimatz Tokyo

Taimatz is a commercial gallery in East Tokyo. Masako Hosoi who is an art director of Taro Nasu opened in 2011. I exhibited my paintings inspiring by Midnight Tokyo. I cycled around Tokyo at midnight. Tokyo is the city has never slept because of lots of convenience stores open 24 hours, and lots of vending machines everywhere. You might imagine the kind of city would be noisy and chaotic. However, Tokyo is opposite to chaotic. Tokyo is the most ordered city in Japan. There are 10 million people 30 million people in the metropolitan area. You need to behave efficiently, and in order otherwise, everything would stop the flow and cause the city to delayed. People are queuing up in a tight manner, any seconds are important. It sounds stressful, yes it is. But at midnight, you see the real character of Tokyo. Machines are working as same as in the daytime. They look calm and peaceful working without a human being. Every machine's lights look like a reflection on the water surface and smoothly moving. I strongly thought this country is a water-rich country. It creates everything like water, streaming, and clear.

Workshop with local grannies

This was the most beauriful experience I still have ever been. I was invited to stay the residency through Kiyoshima Apartment when I was living there as a residency artist in Beppu. The place is in South south Korea near Guangzhou. Berth place of deliciou bibimbap! Museum staff and directors are super super super sweet and kind. They gave all meal every morning and evening (partying with local people we did not have any shared language even!)The food I had there is still the most amazing food I ever had. All fresh includes rice sake some local farmers brough it we exchanged it to beer from supermarkets. I deeply regreted if I could know any little Korean language, I could have communicated with them more. Now I can read little bit of Korean want to come back and say thank you for the time.

別府の清島アパートに2013年度アーティストとして滞在していました。別府での生活は大変楽しく今でも「日本」を 思い出すときは別府の景色です。その中で別府プロジェクトからのコミッションワークをいただき作成しました。 「夢の樹」という別府市内のケーキ屋さんとのコレボレーションでクッキーと箱のデザインをしました。

部長:奈良美智さん 顧問:藤浩志さんの下6人の作家が選ばれ部活を作りました。  部長からアドバイスを受けながら十和田アーツセンターの商店街にてレジデンシー、展示、発表を行いました。私は「松本茶舗」  さんの地下室にて。店内には緑のフクロウの作品(展示作品ではない)が飾ってあると思いますのでぜひお越しください。
