Field Sketch
Studio Ghibli Kazuo Oga
Studio Ghibli's first work is My Neighbor Totoro. I remember sitting in the aisle and seeing it since the movie theater was so crowded that. I remember that I didn't understand the story honestly because I was around 5 years old. I was touched by the food scenes. I was terribly attracted to Princess Mononoke when I was 11. I had a strong admiration for nature, and when I saw the depiction of a princess who grew up in the wild and a deep forest model in Yakushima, I strongly wanted to be part of that landscape somehow.
Outdoor tree sketch. I input the tree shape into me by drawing and output them on the canvas freely. Adding leaves and stems that order so that the plants spread organically. Trees are an indispensable motif for works of art from past to presense, East to West. Many textile patterns are are inspired by the flowers and plants. There is a close relationship between art and plants.
Utagawa Hiroshige I often look at Ukiyoe for getting inspiration for radical conpositioins.
Amazing expression of rainy days. And a silhouetto of forest.
Skeches of plants. Rasberry and Mint. Trees. Pine trees are inpired from Ukiyoe and ink painting. This round curve pine tree is by Hiroshige Utagawa. This pine tree is in Ueno Park in real. There are lots of rasberries in the UK. When they are riped, local people will come out to pick them. There is a great hidden spot near my house, in few weeks many people would come out with thier containers.
Two Lions, Shiba Inu and Shibori
From the left the illustrated lion on 12th-century Medieval manuscript 'Early illustrated bestiary' British Library collection. “Karajishi-zu byōbu” (The huge folding screen of Chinese lions) by Kanō Eitoku (狩野永徳) Kabosu-chan. Most famous Shiba-inu in the world as being used top poplar Meme. European medieval manuscripts are my treasure box. Why did you invent one-point perspective when there were so many wonderful paintings? No, it's okay to invent, it is wonderful invention, but why has it become the standard for most art and painting? They were so strong enough to wipe the other paintings styles being labeled as childlike or unsophisticatedbut. In the world, multiple perspectives and reverse perspectives were common. David Hockney explains brilliantly about these perspectives so I recommed to watch it. Liner perspective is for scientific evidence. When it comes to science, the number of "mysteries" will decrease (although it is Christianity idea, no mystery), and the types of thoughts and spirits will decrease.
Started New Painting 2021
I have started a new painting. The plants are from the backyard of my studio. When I was drawing in the park. A little boy talked to me "What are you drawing?" I said " I am drawing the trees over there" "Are you an artist?" "Yes, I am " "I like your drawing, why are you not drawing that area?" " Ah, this is because,, " " Heeey come here! " " ah, I need to go, bye!,," He was so sweet... I wanted to tell him why I left some area empty.

I am obsessed with the Japanese Kimono recently. I have many many collections of kimonos in my studio. The silk is just like sacred items when I am wearing them I feel so healthy and confident. Wearing Kimono is not easy in Japan for many people. There are lots of rules and manners in wearing Kimonos then many people are scared to wear them in the wrong way. But I realized it Kimono is just a clothing. Everybody used to wear them in the past. And if there are so many rules that must have been from upper-class culture. So, I am not from an upper-class family and culture, so why do I need to follow their strict manner? I am an outsider or just a peasant.
From the left: My Shibori Kimono Jacket. Shibori pattern is one of the iconic Japanese patterns I always wanted to add "pattern" in painting but it took a while to find a good way for me. I added this in-between places as like up in the air. So I could add another image like a collage. Headpieces from V&A collection in the South Asian gallery. Okoso-head piece. Huge boomed in the Meiji period to prevent the cold. Waterfall series by Hokusai.
「My drawing process of Tree」

Drawings of drawing trees
Since the pandemic and local lockdown happened, I have started gardening. I was always interested in gardening but I did not have time to commit it. So, the lockdown was a good(?!!!) opportunity to start (as you know everybody thought the same thing, the compost was disappeared from the market!) Firstly, I started composting food to create next year's compost. (It does not sound like the first thing to do) I live on a narrowboat. So my garden is limited. However, I was doing really well. I could grow cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuces, sweet peas, kales, etc,. I also built a water garden with rubbish such as abandoned timbers and plastic bottles. All plants I put in are incredibly happy. So it becomes wild to attract wild birds come to eat insects. I did lots of sketches of plants. Observing how they grown from the seeds. This is the starting point of making this current plant series. Drawing plants can be difficult coz they look complicated. This is the starting point to break them down into the most simplistic shapes then I can find the way to start. Once I got the way of identifying the shapes, drawing plants are fun. I had started look through references depicting plants in any art. In art, it is effortless to find plants as a motif and subject. They are found on textile patterns, decorative patterns, pottery, furniture, paintings, so anything.
